Kenneth Field, LL.B.
Chairman & Founder
Ken graduated as a lawyer and has over 35 years of entrepreneurial experience in Canada and the US. After being elected as the youngest Director of United Trust at age 27, he went on to become President and CEO of Bramalea Ltd. during its remarkable growth phase in the 1970s and 1980s.
He founded Commercial Alcohols (later renamed GreenField Ethanol and subsequently GreenField Specialty Alcohols Inc.) in 1989 and under his leadership, the company has grown to become the largest manufacturer and distributor of fuel ethanol, industrial alcohol and alcohol-related products in Canada.
In 2002, Ernst and Young honoured Ken with the Entrepreneur of the Year Award for Canada. He was named one of the Financial Post’s “Hot 20” in their 2007 Climate Change Power List. In 2013, on behalf of Greenfield, Ken was pleased to accept the Private Business Growth Award, a national Award, granted by The Canadian Chamber of Commerce and Grant Thornton LLP. Ken has been a member of the Canadian Council of Chief Executives since 2003.
President & CEO
Howard is an entrepreneur and executive with over 20 years of experience including start-up, growth-stage, corporate strategy & development, fundraising (angel, strategic, VC, IPO), contract negotiations, partnerships, corporate finance, product development, branding, and team-building. He has an established track record of leadership success and entrepreneurial achievement.
Prior to joining Greenfield in 2014, Howard lived in Silicon Valley for 16 years. There, he co-founded and lead technology companies including photo merchandise e-commerce companies Picaboo and Picaboo Yearbooks, and bamboo.com, which went public on NASDAQ in 1999 and subsequently merged with Internet Pictures Corporation or “iPIX” in 2000.
Howard is a charter member of The C100 (fostering Canadian entrepreneurship), a member of the Canadian Council of Innovators, a member of the Business Council of Canada, and an Ivey School of Business QuantumShift Fellow. He graduated magna cum laude from Babson College with a Bachelor of Science degree in Business Administration.
Marty S. Cormier, P.Eng., B.Sc. Chemical Engineering
Senior Vice President, Manufacturing
Marty has over 25 years of experience in large scale manufacturing operations with emphasis in operations management and engineering. Throughout his career, he has held leadership positions in all aspects of manufacturing with increasing levels of responsibility.
Marty joined Greenfield in 2000 as a Production Manager and progressed to his current role of Vice President Manufacturing which he has held since 2008. He is currently responsible for all aspects of manufacturing operations in the bulk and packaging facilities.
Under his leadership, the manufacturing facilities have experienced significant growth while improving efficiencies. This has been accomplished by focusing on leadership development and implementing a strong culture of employee engagement and continuous improvement. Marty is a member of the Association of Professional Engineers of Ontario, the Canadian Renewable Fuels Association and routinely interacts with regulators to help establish industry standards.
David Meadows, B.A. (Hons.), J.D., ICD.D
Vice President, Human Resources
David has more than 30 years of experience in Human Resources and has worked in the mining, real estate, and healthcare fields prior to joining Greenfield. He has also worked in Investor Relations and led a Division with profit/loss accountability. Since 2002, he has managed the human challenges of Greenfield’s growth. David is a Board member of a private company and a guest lecturer in his field.
Gary McInerney, B.Sc. Agr
Senior Vice President, Global Sales
Gary has over 30 years of experience in sales and marketing for alcohol and its co-products. He joined Greenfield in 1989 as Vice President and General Manager. His position has evolved over the years to include production, purchasing, corn risk management and five years as President of Pharmco-AAPER. Gary currently oversees fuel, industrial and beverage alcohol sales as well as marketing distillers’ grains and carbon dioxide – both valuable co-products of ethanol production. He is also responsible for leading the development of Greenfield’s international marketing strategy.
Jeff Stone, CPA, CA, M.B.A.
Vice President, Finance & Administration
Jeff has his Chartered Professional Accountants designation and an MBA from York University. He has over 25 years of experience in Finance and Accounting and has worked in the healthcare, distribution, and telecommunications industries prior to joining Greenfield in 2007.
Jeff is responsible for all accounting and administrative functions including external reporting, management reporting, budgeting, cash management, internal controls, insurance, and income and commodity taxes.
Jeff is a member of the Chartered Professional Accountants of Ontario and the Financial Executives International.
Jean Roberge, B. ASC, P.Eng.
Vice President Renewable Energy Strategies
Graduating from Montreal Polytechnical School in 1971, Jean developed solid experience within the fields of design, construction and operation of complex industrial projects. He initiated the development of an ethanol distillery in Quebec in 1992 and joined Commercial Alcohols in 1997.
David Salt, M.A. Sc., P.Eng.
Vice President, Corporate Engineering
David has more than 30 years of engineering experience, primarily in a management capacity. Since 1999, he has been the owner and president of a project management consulting firm that has provided project scope development, engineering resource allocation, project budget control and career development services to a range of clients including Greenfield, Bartek Ingredients, Hanson Brick Ltd., BPB Canada Inc./CertainTeed Gypsum and Wheelabrator Ltd. Prior to that, David was co-owner and operations manager of a full-service engineering consulting firm for 13 years.
David joined Greenfield in 2008 to lead the Greenfield Engineering and Technology Group. He is responsible for overseeing the integration of emerging technologies into the company’s production facilities and the development of commercially viable production methods for cellulosic ethanol. David is a member of the Ontario Society of Professional Engineers.
Malcolm West, B. Comm (Hons), Chartered Accountant
Vice President, Finance & Chief Financial Officer
Malcolm has more than 30 years’ experience as a senior financial executive. His background includes ten years in public accounting practice with a predecessor firm of KPMG, and four years at a Canadian real estate development company, where he served as Vice President and Treasurer.
Malcolm joined the Greenfield team in 1991, and since that time has led all financing initiatives associated with Greenfield’s major capital expansions. Malcolm is responsible for all aspects of corporate finance including banking, treasury, investor relations and risk management. As well, he is responsible for all financial aspects of project development including structuring of long-term contracts and supporting new project development.
Malcolm has played an integral role in the design and structuring of government policy and support programs for ethanol in Canada over the past 20 years. He is Past Chair of the Canadian Renewable Fuels Association and serves on the CRFA Board of Directors. He is also a member of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Ontario and the Financial Executives Institute.
Barry S. Wortzman, Q.C., LL.B.
Vice President, Business Development
Barry has over 40 years of experience in litigation. He was admitted to the Ontario Bar in 1969 and joined Shibley Righton LLP where he continues to be a partner. On his call, he was awarded the Law Society Second Prize and the Lawyers Club Second Prize. He was appointed a Queen’s Counsel in 1983.
In 2006 he was seconded by Shibleys to Greenfield for a special engagement, splitting his time between the Company and his law firm. He has since become a full-time employee of the Company devoting most of his time to head office management responsibility for a variety of matters including the development of ‘Gen 2’ technologies.
Vice President, Corporate Services & Chief Risk Officer
Doug has overseen the risk management function since joining Greenfield in 2008. Prior to that he held a senior role managing commodity risk for George Weston Ltd./Loblaw Companies Ltd. He is also accountable for Greenfield’s management information systems.
Doug holds his MBA from Laurier University and the Derivative Market Specialist from the Canadian Securities Institute.
Vice President, Grain Origination
Ken has more than 30 years of experience in the agricultural industry where he has served in many roles ranging from grain procurement to logistics and merchandising as well as managing grain assets. A long-time resident of Southwestern Ontario, Ken is responsible for the structuring and the success of Greenfield’s ever-evolving corn procurement program. Ken studied Horticulture at the University of Guelph; he sat on the board of a major Grain company in Quebec for 16 years as well as sitting on the board of Directors for OABA and held the position of Vice President prior to his departure.
