Solid Waste to Cellulosic Ethanol

Bulldozer driving in a landfill pushing garbage

We have joined forces with Enerkem Inc. to commercialize the production of cellulosic ethanol from non-recyclable waste and debris sourced from the municipal, commercial, construction and demolition, and industrial sectors using Enerkem’s proprietary thermochemical gasification process which produces a synthetic gas from carbon that can be readily converted into ethanol.

Current Project

Greenfield and Enerkem are currently developing a project that will incorporate the Enerkem technology into our corn ethanol plant in Varennes, Quebec. The facility will be built and operated by Varennes Cellulosic Ethanol L.P., a joint venture formed by Enerkem Inc. and Greenfield Global.
